What is Reflexology?
Reflexology was in existence during the early age of civilization; people have regarded pressure points on the feet to be very therapeutic.
Reflexology was introduced to the public in 1913 by an ear, Nose and Throat specialist, Dr William Fitzgerald. Dr Edwin Bowers was also involved with what came to be called Zone therapy. In the 1930s and 1940s, a physiotherapist and nurse called Eunice Ingham modified the research on Zone therapy and developed Reflexology.
Reflexology is a technique of applying gentle pressure to the reflexes on the hands and feet. Various points on the feet have a relationship with different body organs. This corresponding relationship is known as a “reflex.”
What are the benefits of Reflexology?
- It helps to promote a state of homeostasis (a state of balance) within body organs and hormone secretions.
- It stimulates the body’s own healing and regenerative processes.
- It is a form of detoxification. Focusing on the liver reflex point.
